The Administration Division of Public Works Agency includes the Director of Public Works and his immediate staff. The Offices of the Public Works Director are located in the Central Services Department on the third floor of the Government Center at 800 South Victoria Avenue in Ventura.
Central Services Department provides centralized support services to all PWA departments. Services include centralized clerical, fiscal, and real estate services for the departments of PWA as well as agency wide support for health and safety, technology and facilities, payroll and personnel.
Engineering Services Department provides a wide range of engineering services to clients within the County of Ventura organization and the public. Our services include: capital program and project management, facilities contracting, land development, flood damage mitigation, land surveying and surveyor support.
Transportation Department is responsible for the planning, designing, funding, operating and maintaining 544 miles of the county unincorporated road system and coordinates public transit needs for the county unincorporated areas. The department is composed of several sections: Transportation Planning, Traffic and Permit Sections as well as the Design and Construction Section and the Road Maintenance Division.
Water and Sanitation Department has two distinct divisions: The Utility Services Division (USD) and the Integrated Waste Management Division (IWMD). The USD provides a high-quality water supply at reasonable costs to meet our consumer’s needs and collects, treats and disposes of wastewater safely and efficiently. The USD promotes water conservation programs throughout our service areas. The IWMD reduces solid waste, prevents pollution, and promotes the sustainable management of waste materials primarily in unincorporated communities but also in partnership with all County municipalities. The IWMD promotes recycling and reuse programs to reduce solid waste going to local landfills while enhancing environmental quality.
Watershed Protection District of PWA is both a department of Public Works and a special district of California. The District provides for the control and conservation of flood and storm waters and for the protection of watercourses, watersheds, public highways, life and property in the District from damage or destruction from these waters. The District’s authority is over specific jurisdictional channels. Integrated watershed management is practiced within the component functions: Administration, Advanced Planning and Permitting, Water and Environmental Resources, Watershed Resources and Technology (including Hydrology and Hydrography), Design and Construction, and Operation and Maintenance. Our Watershed Protection District provides staff for Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency, a special district tasked with protecting groundwater in the deep aquifer beneath much of southwestern Ventura County.
